Anyone out there know if I can load a aviation database into a Garmin Street pilot lll gps?
Or how to do it and what software I need . Were to get the software?

The best way to find out is to go to garmin site and check. I believe all of the GPS IIIs are out of date.

I called Garmin once. They told me no road gps will work with air-nav. They would not explain why. But I think its for the money, they want more for the air-nav's maybe uses a different computer language.

The street versions are the same basic units as the aviation ones. A waypoint is a waypoint.

But what you're paying extra for in the aviation units is the Jeppesen data base.

That, and stamping 'Aviation' on anything increases the price. :)

The aviation GPSs also have altimeter read outs. I have a GPS plus III. and a GPS 196. The 196 is the only one I can get upgrades for. Ebay has the GPS III in the pilot and plus on their site from time to time.

Ya I just got a email back from Garmin . They only said that what Brent said. That the street version dosn't support aviation data.
