I was astound when reading the comments in the Sunday “El Nuevo dia” newspaper, made by the PR port authority director and secretary of State Fernando Bonilla taken from a radio interview.

“That in order to keep the Luis Munoz international airport alive he has to redirect all GA and cargo to other airports”. It seems he don’t run a manufacturing company or service business, because the San Juan area covers in a timely fashion the goods needed to keep this economy running for the majority of the Pharmaceuticals and electronic companies of more than 20 towns . He forget that the only 2 actual airports for cargo are more than 2 to 3 hours away from the capital.

He went on stating that “they are missing 1 element to control and is the growth of GA”. That if they can divert all cargo and control GA growth this will permit extend the life of the SJU international airport”. He is forgetting that GA represent 65 billions in the US and we can modestly say that in PR General aviation including cargo , corporate jets and sport aviation represent at least 1 billion of dollars in the PR economy.

They have been threatening to close the only 4 regional airport in the island from which 1 of this 4 (isla grande airport ) now is important for the tourism development. This is the main GA airport so I assumed it will see a control growth base on Bonilla statement . Or may I say a contro death .

The port authority is more focus on passenger boarding taxes vs. expanding the island for Cargo movement and other GA business . He ( Bonilla) also forgets that the small commuters that are part of GA depend on regional airport as well to conduct business. The medical flight can not be juggling space for landing in a busy international or cargo airport.

I will continue to fight for my freedom to flight and help develop GA economy.

The future for GA is written with this government , you will not grow and I will watch you die.
