Last night I got the motor mounts fabricated and hung the engine to check for straightness and tilt.

Also included a pic of the boom trainer axel showing the casters and shimmy dampner.

pardon my ignorance, but does the mechanism along the axle allow you to land with a slight sideways drift on??

Mike, that's exactly what the casters are for. You can land crabbed and not tumble. And then think about your lesson for the day...If that wasn't a training boom, my day would have sucked!

Fellow gyro aviators. As you all may know, I fly a RAF. I have little if any knowledge of the Benson other than what I see at flyins. I got a phone call to evaluate a 1983 benson with a 90 hp mac on it. There is no carb or mags. Also missing was the prerotator shaft and parts below the bendix and gears plus the wheel that rubs on the prop hub. Out side of that it looks in good condition. The questions are as follows. Who could go over the engine and make it airworthy. Are the parts described above available and from who. We pulled the jugs and one piston looked a little rough. Is there A SOURCE FOR THE PISTONS and wrist pins/clips? Thanks for your help so I can help this local wanabee become a member of an elite group of aviators.

Larry,
There are two sources for Mac parts that I know of. Rick Whitridge(937-878-2598) and R&D Aeronautical Engineering (1-903-527-2006) in Texas. It may be better to find a running engine.
