Does anyone have any experience with the tuned pipe sold at http://www.rdaerosports.com/ It sounds like a good way to get more horsepower from a 503, but I would like to hear from people who have used them before I commit the $$$

Alan, I haven't had ANY experience with 2 strokes (not entirely true, but close!) for sometime and certainly don't know what rpm range you guys are running in. But in looking at the dyno sheets it looks like there is a dramatic jump in output in the 4500 to 5000 range on most, if not all, of their 503 exhaust/combos. I don't know if this presents a problem or not but I do know that is a real adrenaline rush  when ever a bike gets on the pipe or a car gets on the cam! The output does look fairly flat after that jump.
You might email Anthony Spagnoletti at aspag@ev1.net or call his business at 281 681-2867. He has experimented with several pipes with his Yamaha powered gyros and on a Kawasaki of a friends and 'peakiness' was a concern. I just don't know whether these dyno results can be called peakiness.

I was flying a underpowered 582 Quicksilver on amphibious floats and saw this thread a few months ago. Then, after a few calls to R&D, I decided to order their stainless steel tuned pipe.
I tested it this morning and I got and extra 10-15% of power. Amazing ! The only small difference is that between 4,000 and 5,000 you have to be a little alert as the engine tends to go down or up on its own.
Aside from this, is excellent.
After flying the Quick I flew the Dominator for a while. Beautiful and peaceful morning over lakes and jungles.

tell us more about the new pipe PLEASE! I am thinking one might make a great Christmas present to my dominator.
did you have to re jet? How do you figure you got more power? was it a easy install? Pics???? price????

Ron,
The installation of the tuned pipe was a little difficult as we had to manufacture special brackets to secure it on top of the Quicksilver.
Yes. we had to ajust the jets to make them richer as the engine was redlining at 1200. Now one cylinder stays around 1100 and the other around 900.
We assume it burns now around 7 galons per hour.
We figured it has more power doing a lbs thrust test. Before the pipe it gave 280 lbs and after the pipe 320lbs thrust.
Also, before the pipe I was doing 100-200 fpm climb and now it goes 300-400 fpm, which for a Quicksilver as heavy as mine -stainless steel cage, Full Lotus Floats, amphibious system, 14 gallon tank, parachute- is great. Also, I can take off much easier from water.
My ultralight club airport is about an hour drive, thus I will try to get some pictures asap.
Price of the stainless steel pipe is around $650 FOB
Finally, it took several weeks and many calls to get the promised tuned pipe in the mail.
