HI all,

Just heard a news report of a gyrocopter coming down at Wallaville just south of Bundaberg at 0800hrs today.

Initial report said the gyro lost height in a turn flying into the ground. The 48 year old pilot was uninjured.

From the grapevine I received the following: - the gyro failed to recover from a powered off sink ... initial rudder input failing to correct but rather intensifying a spiral into the ground.

Main thing is the pilot walked away uninjured. So lets wait and see the accident report.

A 48-YEAR-OLD man has escaped injury after his gyrocopter crashed into an orchard in central Queensland.

Police said the man was the only occupant in the aircraft when it crashed at Wallaville, south-west of Bundaberg, at about 7.30am today.

The pilot, who was able to walk free from the accident, told police he had taken off from a nearby ultralight airstrip and had lost altitude while executing a turn.

Judging from the other headlines in the paper -- a fatal plane crash, murders and rapes and robberies -- Australian journalists are the same miserable soulless wretches as our own.
