I just finished a protractor using Poly-carbon plastic ,it's 3/16 thick and I used a small ball bearing( 3/16 id and 1/2 od) as the pivot
I got tired of trying to guess what degrees my blades were at using the old Sears Protractor,,,,it has graduations that are so close I cannot truly know exactly what my settings are.
The graduations on my Home Made one are 3/16 of an inch and makes for easier adjustment of setting collective of my blades.
As it is I have Bensen Blades with a 34 inch hub bar,,,,and the blades are showing 2 degrees at 50 percent station,,,,and 2 & 1/2 degrees at 100 percent station.
I am able to hand start them and they spin up quite easily. I was always under the thought that anything over 1 & 1/2 degrees ,,,,would be very difficult to spin up,,,,but I am finding that to be not the case. Any suggestions,,,,,or recommendations????????

For what it is worth in metrics one degree is equal to 17.5 mm at 1.000 mm. That would make things a lot easier for an old blind bugger like me to get the setting closer:whoo: Des Garvin Happy New Year to you all :yo:

The best you can do on blade angle is to get a smart level..
Or Smart Tool mfg. by M-D products...it is digital

You can set your blade pitch XACTLY with this lil tool....NO GUESSING

They're a C-note (100.00) or better buut you can purchase them on line for 99.00 plus shipping... I paid 116.00 for mine a few weeks ago..

Doesn't the force of gravity act "up" in Australia?

Now, now Tom. Don't be like that. You can see that the protractor is upside down, so Sam has obviously taken all of this into account!!!! :der:
