I have a scorpion helicopter. It still has the old cable style collective system and the 1.5 inch rotor shaft. I want to remove it and put on a swash plate. I have the Aeros helicopter plans and would like to know if it's swash plate would be strong enough to be suitable on the scorpion? I'll be using 2024 T3 and 4130.

Royden your biggest problem with the Scorpion converting it to a swashplate is clearance from the back of the cab and the cyclic control rods.

I made my own system for my Scorpion and modified the stock swashplate. but I sold the helicopter project before I tore it up. I made a slider that the swashplate mounted to that would slide up and down the rotorshaft. and still let the Swashplate gimble. I also made a control mixer to rise and lower the whole assembly. I did several run up and had it light on the skids a few times. but was haveing problems getting my blades tracked. was useing Vortech blades, and since i was not the one to mount them to the hub they may have been off some, that or my control linkage was not adjusted right.
from video I have of it running it looks like it was feeding in more pitch to one blade then the other. I had a 162 Exec engine in mine.

you best bet is to go on the Rotorway forums and look for the parts from an Exec. these fit right in and are proven. look around. I have seen shaft swashplate and rotorhead before for $2,500 be honest if you can't afford that, then take my advice, get rid of the Scorpion now. Rotorway loves it's parts. friend of mine had to get a waterpump for his, $800.00 with a discount.

I had more pics that would have been great for ya but lost them when my hard drive crashed. I did use this same slider and scorpion swashplate on my TH-135 dusty2 helicopter,I will look and see if i can find a close up that may give ya some ideas. do you have a pic of the type swashplate you are talking about. as long as the parts are of good size it should be do able.

Thanks for the reply. I have already designed and installed the control system and mixer. I have full and free movement in collective and cyclic controls without interference between the frame and push rods. The task i have now is to make up the swash plate. The aeros chopper's swash plate looks right for my heli. I might have to beef it up a bit. What transmission did you use in your dusty?

My main rotor gearbox was a cut down and modifed 84 subaru front differantal turned sideways with adapter plates and several other mods. it was about 35 pounds if I remember right, and was very free turning.

here is a pic of it partly converted.
