This May 29-30 there will be a Sport Rotorcraft Fly-in at the PRA Mentone airport in Mentone, Indiana.

This event is being co-hosted by the Greater Midwest Rotorcraft Club, PRA Chapt. 18 from Lansing, IL., The Flying 80's, PRA Chapt.80 from Knox, IN., and the Mentone Aero Club, PRA Chapt. 81 from Mentone and is a recognized Aero Sports Connection (ASC) Rotor Wing event.

Planned for the event are ASC Rotor Wing competitions such as, bomb drop, spot landing, and proficiency flights.

Rotorcraft safety seminars are planned and will be acceptable for the FAA "Wings Program"

A "pot luck" dinner is planned for Saturday night. Bring a plate to pass.

Food will likely be available at the concession stand throughout the event.

More information will be posted as the event nears.

There will be plenty of camping with water & electrical hook-ups for a $5.00 per night donation to PRA

Hey Chuck,

What kind of attendance is normal for this fly in? I am going to come down after my Friday night wedding, probably Sat morning and part of Sunday. I am going to bring part of my family and my brother and his family to stay overnight. They have never seen gyros fly before - only heard me tell about how interesting they are and they have been seeing the progress in the barn....

They are excited about it and I am sure it will be worth the trip. We are looking forward to it.

Thanks, jtm

Can't say about the attendance. The last (and only) one. It rained most of the week in to the weekend. :( :( :( So the turn out was poor.

I'll be there, and will have my tractor gyro on static display, and will be available to answer any questions, and take any abusive comments that ....... on second thought, I will only answer questions that don't relate to my gene pool and no abuse allowed!! HA!

Hey Tim, I can think of a few I'll save just for you....

We're coming down anyway so really, it's no problem....

Hopefully the second Memorial Day Meet at Mentone will be more to write about than what Chuck had to say. Evidently this software doesn't automatically filter out all the bad words like rain and bad weather etc....

We're going to try to have some fun. I really hope that there will be someone flying so that my brother can see what the fuss is about.....

Thanks for the replies, looking forward to the trip. jtm

Chuck,

The St. Louis club fly-in is supposed to be this weekend at the Palmyra airport, but the weather looks really iffy. If we do not attend this fly-in, my wife and I will attend the Mentone fly-in(again, weather permitting. I try real hard not to tow the gyro if there's any chance of getting wet).

I sure hope the weather is going to hold.... I look forward to seeing machines. My brother, his wife and 2 kids are coming down to look around. It appears weather is better than last few days so We are coming down....hoping for the best. We are all looking forward to it. Anyone else coming?

I think Rich, one of the other 2 people involved in the 3- LW3 builds is coming down to pick up more parts I cut out. Let's see, 2.20 to his house or 2.20 to Mentone and he only has to drive 2. hours to get there..... Mentone is still better right (lol).

Well, how was the fly-in, guys? Someone please report!

It was not very well attended. I did not stay the whole time but I heard from Tom Milton that a total of 3 gyros showed up. Plus a couple of fixed wingers.

Rick Marshall was there with his Magni, offering instruction and intro flights.

Several people camped out and of course there was lots of "hangar" flying.

There were several fixed wingers that flew in for graduations. They got picked up and didn't stick around. I guess thats why the turn out was poor. A lot of people probably had other things to do.

Thanx for your report, Chuck. I'm sorry it wasn't better attended.
