well its been a long time coming, been working on this for about 2 years now, consistancy has definatly suffered in my case, but today i finally soloed in my own sparrowhawk.. spent the last several hours getting the landings just right.. now that i have them, seems like what was the big deal, but i really struggled with the landings.. but it all came together and i officially soloed for 3 touch and goes and got my log book endorsed.. now im not sure im gonna be able to stay on the ground for long. allready thinking of taken her up tomorow morning while the weather is good..

Congrats Patrick. Bet you hope the sale of your machine holds off for a while now so you can get some more flight time? Better get that next bird ordered and underway.

Patrick,
Where you drug your training out over a 2 year period, how many hours of dual did you have before you were ready to solo?
ptope

i ended up with over 25 hours to get my solo. this was over a 2 year period and with 2 different instructors in 3 different machines.. the length of time was due to financial reasons, and the lack of local instructors. there were times i would go 6 to 8 months inbetween lessons. not very conducive to learning to fly.

today i went out for my first unsupervised solo outside the pattern.. here are some pics. it was a great day for flying. no wind, about 45 degrees. had to wait for the fog to clear but once it did, it was perfect to take up the sparrowhawk to get a feel for her with only me in it. here are some pics from my 1.2 hours today..

It seems your personality has progressed to the strong loner type of gyro pilot.
LOL This is where you have been journeying for the last two years.
Congrats

it was weird not having anyone to talk to.. cant wait to get my rating so i can take others up. thats when the fun will really start.. on the day of my solo, i had the instructor take up an old hanger neighbor. He had helped us out with tools, trailer, ect over several months, but he had never gone up before.. When he came back he had a perma grin... hes a fixed wing guy and i think the vertical decents and pedal turns really impressed him..

Pressure is off for me. Now I'm not the only gyro flyer in Ory-gun taking pictures for the rest of the forum.:yo:
But I wasn't recognizing where you were along the Willamette, so you need to put some captions along with your pictures. That way if you find something good to fly over, I can retrace your steps. Were you near Independence? I don't get down that far very often.

those pictures of the river are just east of independence and west of salem. im gonna go out again today when the fog lifts.. Gary, in the last picture, if you look in the distance and see some white buildings, thats the capital in salem.. im east of independence looking east, north east. i didnt think of labeling them, since most people here wouldnt have a clue what i was talking about anyway..

Patrick,
Great! I was working on my SparrowHawk today. I have a long way to go but your solo flight in your ship motivates me. Congratulations!
